Scope and Contents

This collection contains 19 folders of materials. Materials are a mixture of official organization records, yearbooks that document organizational activities, documents related to division and national UDC activities, and photographs showing organizational activities. It primarily documents the Stover Camp's activities during the latter part of the 20th century.

Biographical / Historical

The Stover Camp Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) was founded in 1898 to memorialize the Confederate States of America and soldiers that fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. It was involved in numerous memorial and historic preservation activities during the 20th century with a focus on maintaining a Confederate-centric historic narrative.

Abstract

This collection contains records, photographs, and newspaper clippings produced by and related to the Stover Camp, United Daughters of the Confederacy, located in Strasburg, Virginia.

Arrangement

Materials are arranged chronologically based on dates present in the materials. Undated items are at the end of the collection.

Collection numbering starts with Folder 1.5 since this collection shares a box with another collection.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the Truban Archives by Gloria Stickley, a past president and member of the UDC Chapter, in 2019.

Processing Information

Materials were received without original order. Some were within notebooks or scrapbooks, others loose. All materials were removed from notebooks and scrap books for preservation purposes but processed together if received in this form. Materials were foldered. All newspaper clippings were copied with originals disposed of.
