Biographical / Historical

Bethany Lutheran Church was organized by Reverend Henry Wetzel in 1870 and the building was constructed in 1873 on land donated by Daniel Brumback. The 55 original members of the congregation included members of the Brumback, Bowers, Miller, Spitler, Hottel, Barb, Fadely, and Sager families. The inside of the building is well maintained with original materials. Pastor William R. Ballance has offered monthly services since 1988.

Abstract

This collection contains items related to Bethany Lutheran Church, also called "Buzzards Glory," near Columbia Furnace Virginia, including photographs of the church and church events. A limited amount of printed ephemera is also included.

Arrangement

The photographs in this collection are sleeved and the printed ephemera are foldered. The materials are sorted in the box by size. The finding aid is sorted chronologically with undated items at the end.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

One photograph of the church was donated by Evelyn Poland, a church trustee, in 2024. The other items were donated by Theresea Hall, Evelyn Poland's niece, in 2024.
