Biographical / Historical
Formerly part of a joint congregation dating back to the late 1700s, Lutherans in Toms Brook separated from other local congregations in Shenandoah County and built their own church in 1869. In 1905, a new brick building on the same site was dedicated and named St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. This building is still in use today. During the First and Second World Wars, St. Peters played a role in the community's war efforts. In 2012, St. Peters joined parish with St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and St. Stephens Lutheran Church due to decreased membership and financial support.
