Scope and Contents

The Herb Parker Collection includes 107 folders of various documents and two oversize folders. They are stored in two boxes and two folders in the archive's map case.

The collection is organized into the following seven (7) series:

Series I: Politics and Elections contains various documents relating to political life in Shenandoah County. They are dated 1887-1995 and are primarily sorted chronologically.

Series II: Fort Valley History contains various documents relating to Fort Valley history, including articles and a letter. They are dated 1828-1999 and sorted chronologically with undated items at the back.

Series III: Church History contains various documents relating to church history of various churches in Shenandoah County, including minutes, by-monthly, picture cards, and more. They are dated 1859-1995 and are sorted chronologically.

Series IV: Deeds contains deeds between various individuals. They are dated 1795-1854 and are sorted chronologically, with an undated list of landowners at the back.

Series V: Shenandoah County History, contains a variety of documents relating to Shenandoah County history, including a letter, a written history, and more. They are dated 1872-1977 and are primarily sorted chronologically with undated items at the back.

Series VI: Documents contains miscellaneous documents, including a letter, a methods and standards manual, and more. They are dated 1895-ca. 1988 and are primarily sorted chronologically with the methods and standards manual at the back.

Series VII: Water contains various documents relating to water and contamination in Shenandoah County. They are dated 1981-1990.

Biographical / Historical

Herbert "Herb" Parker was a beloved member of the Fort Valley community. He was the brother of Harriet P. Hofheinz, of Cambridge, MA, and was the uncle of Dr. Fritz Hofheinz of Winchester and Dene Hofheinz Lee of Mountclair, NJ. He was an active member of community organizations, including the Shenandoah County Library, and a collector of local historical items. His local history collections were donated to the Shenandoah County Library when he passed.

Abstract

A collection of deeds, historic information, research, and other documents relating to Shenandoah County history donated by Herb Parker. These items are dated from 1795-1999 and focus on a range of subjects, including Shenandoah County history, local politics and elections, church history, deeds, water-related documents, and miscellaneous documents.
