Biographical / Historical

Shenandoah Valley Equality was founded in 1995 as the Shenandoah Valley Gay and Lesbian Association.

Their goals were to gather and communicate important community information, collaborate with allies and LGBTQ-friendly organizations, to organize events within the Valley area for social and educational networking with LGBTQ people, and to advocate for full LGBTQ equality, dignity, and inclusion in the Valley, state, and national communities.

Abstract

The Shenandoah Valley Equality Collection contains newsletters and some ephemera related to Shenandoah Valley Equality (formerly Shenandoah Valley Gay and Lesbian Association). The orgnaization is dedicated to building an inclusive community for LGBTQ people in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.

Processing Information

Items were donated via email transfers. All files were converted to PDFs or JPGs with original titles retained. Original files were then stored on internal library servers. Files were uploaded to the archive's digital platform and then linked via Archives Space.

All newsletters were redacted prior to donation to remove any names of members to preserve the privacy of any members who wished to not be publicly associated with the organization or outed.
